Students from Hooghly district have secured places in the state merit list in the Madhyamik examination, ranking between sixth and ninth positions.

Sohini Koley of Parambua Jagaddhatri High School in Haripal secured a total of 692 marks, earning the sixth rank in the state merit list. She also stood first in Hooghly district.

Sohini credited her parents, school teachers and private tutors for her success. “I never considered studies a burden, but rather a passion,” she said. Besides academics, she enjoys singing, dancing, and writing stories and poems. Her favourite singers are Kaushiki Chakraborty and Arijit Singh. She hopes to pursue medical science and become a doctor to serve society.

Arkaparva Pal of Arambagh High School secured 691 marks to achieve the seventh rank in the state merit list. Tanisha Fakir of Kailash Chandra Sadhukha High School in Joypur also secured 691 marks and shared the seventh rank.

Arkaparva credited his parents and teachers for his achievement, while making special mention of his school headmaster. “My headmaster motivated me greatly and provided every possible assistance in my studies,” he said. Alongside studies, he continued pursuing his hobbies, including cricket, drawing and poetry recitation. Interested in science, he aims to pursue studies in the IIT stream.

Soumalya Ghosh of Kamarpukur Ramakrishna Mission Multipurpose School secured 690 marks and obtained the eighth rank in the state merit list.

Soumalya credited the Maharaj of Kamarpukur Ramakrishna Mission for motivating and guiding him. His father is a private tutor and his mother runs a small garment outlet. “We are not financially well-off. Whenever I studied at night, my parents sat beside me. Their support, along with a disciplined life and strong determination, helped me succeed,” he said. He also hopes to pursue IIT studies.

Six students from Hooghly district secured 689 marks to jointly hold the ninth rank in the state merit list. They are Upayan Pal of Mahesh Sri Ramakrishna Ashram Vivekananda Vidyalaya in Konnagar; Tamoha Kundu of Arambagh Girls’ High School; Sambarta Betal of Kamarpukur Ramakrishna Mission Multipurpose School; Pratya Samanta of Sekendarpur Rai KP Pal Bahadur High School in Tatishal; and Ujjan Ghosh of Baruyipara Rakhal Vidyapith in Baripara.

Tamoha Kundu credited her parents, teachers and private tutors for her achievement. “Self-confidence, perseverance and discipline are the key factors behind every success,” she said. She added that she relied more on textbooks than guidebooks. Her parents, both teachers, helped her with Bengali and mathematics. Her hobbies include singing, poetry recitation and reading storybooks.

Students from Kamarpukur Ramakrishna Mission Multipurpose School had also secured fifth and ninth ranks in the previous Madhyamik examination.
